A broader extension to other instrument categories might be considered in the future. In this project, we concentrate on string keyboard instruments such as pianos and harpsichords. These instruments often cannot be played in a satisfactory way and need to come back to life again. The KIViR project (Keyboard Instruments Virtual Restoration) addresses the case of historical keyboard music instruments present in museums worldwide. Modartt has also announced it has rebuilt the KIViR collection.

The update is free for all Pianoteq 5 customers. It is now possible to easily switch to an extended octave range of the D4 and K2 Grand Pianos and the KIViR collection of historical instruments. The D4 Grand Piano is now slightly improved by re-voicing, bringing increased timbre dynamics to the bass range and more transparency to the medium range. Version 5.1 offers an improved binaural algorithm based on a new dummy head model, bringing a stunning three-dimensional sound experience.

I don't run at 96k.Modartt has released version 5.1 of its Pianoteq virtual piano instrument for Windows and Mac. Again: Modartt should be perfectly clear on this issue in the comparison chart.

Practically, this means the plugin technically will work at 96k Hz, but that results will vary depending on the host (or Modartt's resampling quality? This isn't clear.) only the Pro version guarantees the best result with high rates. Someone in that thread complained that a non-pro version of the plugin didn't sound good running at 96k and it was suggested that the resampling PT did was the cause.

This supposedly means that while the plugin will work in a 96 kHz project, the output will be resampled to the project sampling rate in the Stage and Standard versions if its over 48 kHz above that, only the Pro version can match it's internal processing rate to the project sample rate 1:1 (up to 192 kHz). Not that I want to drag this issue on (I really didn't!), but I read today in the P5 thread of the Modartt Forum that in fact the plugin can run at 96 kHz but that it's its own internal operating sampling rate that is limited to a maximum of 48 kHz in the Stage and Standard versions. And BTW, clearly you should have checked before replying. The question turns out to have been relevant who would think you couldn't use a plugin today at 96kHz? I'm actually surprised they did this they seem like a class act otherwise. Is it not relevant that the other two versions don't go past 48 kHz? So why not show it?. The way this information is presented in the comparison chart isn't complete: it just says that the top version goes to 192 kHz. It's exactly why I asked this very question earlier on in the thread. I think we've all lived with advertising in every aspect of our lives long enough to know many of the tricks and games that are played, like omitting information or spinning facts. I agree with david1103 that this should be clearly indicated in the copy to avoid being 'surprised' that Stage or Standard won't run at all.

You might be surprised how well it behaves even if it's not ran at 96k.Well, it's important for anyone who is always running their projects at 96k. For people who actually just sit down and play, 44.1k and 48k are really just enough and all well. It's 'very important' for a limited number of people. I'm looking forward to the day we can use the mouse to scrape across the strings, or pluck them. The tiered sales idea is a good one, but it would be appreciated if all limitations were made clear (there are in fact only 2!).Д«TW, I have to say that I'm really enjoying all the refinements in this VI: the keyboard calibration is first piano VI that's really made it clear I desperately need a new controller - and the 'Condition' control is nicely realized sound wise visually the oldest keyboard looks just like the first ivories I ever played (rescued from a barn.). There's a lot of work that's obvious in a sampling library but the endless hours of model design and tweaking that go into something like this are not clear at all to a lot of people. I think the problem here is that a 30 MB exec is a harder sell than multi-gig sample library. The standard version is pretty much complete and the refinement of per-note editing isn't for everyone.

The software is great, but I dislike like the policy of not running 192Khz unless owning the flagship version.I agree it seems strange to hold out on 96k when it's so common, but I suppose they have to chose something to hold out on for the premium version.
